How-to Setup Slim Display Manager to Run a New Desktop on Linux

This Tip Show Exactly How-to SetUp the Slim Display Manager for Running a New Window Manager on GNU/Linux Desktops.

With this Procedure you will be Able to Installing or Switching your Desktop to: Lxde, Xfce, Openbox, Fluxbox, Enlightnement, IceWM or Blackbox.

Several Desktops are already Enabled and they are: Default, Xfce4, OpenBox, Ion3, Wmaker, BlackBox, Awesome.

To Switch of Desktop Session on the Login splash screen Press F1!

Follow the procedure below to Add an New Desktop like for example the Enlightenment one…

  1. Edit the Slim Configuration File
    sudo nano /etc/slim.conf
  2. At the End of the sessions Line Append the Command to Run Desktop
    To Run also Enlightenment for example the line should look like:

    sessions default,...,enlightenment_start
  3. Save & Exit from the nano Editor with:
    Ctrl+x
  4. After LogOut You should be able to Run the New Desktop 🙂
